DAY 19

The King of Kings

Of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. Isaiah 9:7

Imagine hoping for the promise of deliverance for all of your life. Imagine being desperate for a savior, and then you hear this promise: a child will be born (Isaiah 9:6)! Not only will the Messiah be born, he will be powerful, and he’ll bring peace, and he’ll reign with justice and righteousness.

Here are two questions to reflect on and discuss as a family or on your own:

  1. What would your reaction be if you heard this news (in the verse above) for the first time?

  2. Why is it important that this prophecy—and hundreds like it— were written in the Old Testament and foretold of Jesus’ arrival?

Pray: “You’re a good king! You’re powerful and strong. This world can be so discouraging, so, Lord, help me remember that You’re making all things new.”

As a Family: Hang a stocking for Jesus. Write down what you will give to or give up for Him in response to His awesome goodness and put the pieces of paper in the stocking.
