A Humble King
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Micah 5:2
The term “little” refers to Bethlehem’s size & significance. Yet, out of obscurity and weakness, God brought forth a King whose rule would be our rescue. Sure enough, this strong King came in the form of a weak, newborn baby, born in a borrowed barn. He was and is the One through whom wicked sinners find lasting rest.
Here are two questions to reflect on and discuss as a family or on your own:
- Why would Jesus, the King of all creation, choose to be born in such a lowly place? What does this tell us about His work and ways?
- What is one way you could willingly walk in the humble example of Jesus today?
Pray: “Great and mighty King! Thank you for displaying your matchless strength in such a deep and humbling way. Help me to humble myself in a manner worthy of the gospel this week.”
